Glossary

A glossary of terms used around Electric Vehicles and charging them.

Alternating Current. The power as it comes from the grid, and out of the powerpoints at your home, or from a inverter attached to your solar panels.

AC power symbol and abbreviation

1 kW = 1000 W

A unit of power, as generated by a wind turbine or used by an electric motor. Also the unit to express the rate at which an EV is being charged

Wind Mills

Current Transformer. Measures the current flowing through an AC power line.

A unit of energy, as it is stored in a battery, generated in a solar system or used in an EV.

Direct Current. The power as it is stored in a battery, and also as it comes from the solar panels on your roof.  

DC power symbol and abbreviation

The rated maximum output power of a PV (photovoltaic) system.
